Prank Gone Wrong
There is a bag on my head.
“Come on! ¡Vamonos! We goin’ be late”, someone shouts outside, before closing the car door.
I’ve watched so many action movies that I know not to scream and play this situation cool. Men speaking in spanish surround me. I only took spanish class for three years so I can’t really understand what they are saying. I can’t see anything but I know from the movies that they are probably not going to take me somewhere and make me do something stupidly horrible. At least from the movies which I know are not realistic.
Trying to remember the turns and how long before the next one, takes my mind off from all this. I know I’m not some sort of detective instead I’m just a freaking kid. I breathe heavily as panic starts kicking in. The men take notice and take the bag off my head. The first face I see is my uncle’s face.
“What the f” I say.
“Shut up!” says one of the guys. I feel the cool metal pistol pressed against my face. I know this is serious now.
“Uncle,” I try to talk to him but the gun is pressed harder on my head. My uncle locks eyes with mine and I can see him getting uncomfortable.
“Speak” he says in his hispanic accent; my uncle, Pablo, doesn’t speak much english. Except I can’t think of what to say, I’m overwhelmed that I simply can’t get any words out. Everyone else has a mask and I can’t tell who they are but I make myself remember their body features. The car stops and I hear the screeching sound metal gates would make. I take note of this. I couldn’t see the outside, the car had no windows; the big guy covered the little window with his big stupid head. The car starts moving again I assume that we are entering the house where they’ll probably kill me or something. My brain can’t handle this anymore. I let a scream of anger out while I attempt to break the plastic ties on my hands and legs. I realize that’s dumb when I couldn’t even move. The gun, once again, is pressed hard against my face by the guy wearing a Donald Trump mask.
“Please let me go I’ll do anything! Pablo what’s going on?!” I shout. They don’t say anything. I don’t move but instead I surrender. The car stops and the doors open. More masks of Donald Trump. I don’t understand why latinos are wearing these masks. I’m not scared or intimidated by them. Anyways, I try to look around while I can before they put a bag on my head.
Once again, I’m blind, they put the bag on my head before I could see something. I breath hard so they would take the bag off, but it doesn’t work this time. As they walk me over to somewhere, I can start to barely hear voices from what I assume come from inside a room.
“Ay bring him here!” someone shouts at one of the guys that are holding me.
When they begin to move me a different direction I hear laughs. Now, the first thing that comes to my mind is the video that I saw last week. It was about the dark web and some horrible videos found inside it. The laughs were not the typical laughs of fun or something funny; they were childish creepy laughs. In the YouTube video it narrated that the person in the video that I saw was brutally killed and I could only think that I was going to be killed in a brutal way. My thoughts were horrible I couldn’t stop imagining what they were going to do.
As we enter the room I can hardly stay up. I feel very light and I just can’t feel my legs at all anymore.
“Alright, put him on the table.” My heart literally drops and I just drop.
“Oh crap. He’s passed out.”
“Wake him up!”
“Call 911!”
“I told y’all this was a bad idea but noooo, no one listened to me.”
As I laid on the ground I hear all of these things. I can’t hear them clearly but I know that this was my family. I realize that this whole thing was a prank but I don’t move, I have no energy and I close my eyes.
I open my eyes, the bright lights on the ceiling blind me. I rub my eyes but it takes some time to see clearly again. I panic as I see I’m in a hospital. “Oh no,” is all I can say.
I can’t feel my body so I panic, but then I see it. I’m relieved.
“Why the hell am I here?” I whisper to myself. I couldn’t remember much and if I try to remember I feel a sharp pain in my head. So I try not to. I look around more and I see my family outside the window. I get up and walk out of the room, they all surround me and ask if I’m fine which I tell them yes and that I only have a super bad headache. Although everyone is worried about me I see some of my cousins laughing.
“What’s funny, huh?” I ask them.
“Nothing,” pretty much all of them say. I know my cousins are lying but my head hurts so I don’t argue. I stay in the hospital ‘til the afternoon. As we are leaving the hospital I notice the white van and my uncle Pablo, behind him some news reporters. I don’t care for the reporters asking questions. Instead my mind thinks hard and then I see it, the image of when I was pulled into the van and Pablo’s face. My mind wanted revenge but my body wanted to rest of all the medicine. I get into the van in the front seat with Pablo. I go home and go to sleep for hours. I wake up with the loud laughter of my family. I walk out to see them and see the big screen with my terrified face during what I can only barely remember when I was being pranked I believe is what happened. After a few days after my prank I see my face and name on the news. I’m embarrassed but after a while I forget and just see it as a funny memory.
