Irish Potato Famine
Dear U.S Citizens,
It’s 1849 and i’m in Dublin Ireland and behind me are all the rotten potato plants, that are pushing over one million women, men, and most of all children out.
There are dead bodies EVERYWHERE. The potato blight has already killed approximately 1 million people.
The cause of the famine was because of a potato disease called the potato blight. This has created a problem because one third of the countries population is dependent on potatoes.
The one million are immigrating to the U.S. and are never coming back. In one year alone their emigration total to the U.S. was somewhere around 250,000, more of them emigrating from western Ireland than anywhere else.
Today there is a ship taking some of the youngest members to the U.S.. Most families did NOT emigrate just the younger family members.
I will now enclose some pictures that I have drawn of the horrible sights I have seen.
Please help these suffering people,
K.S.
