August 2022 Fiction Contest: Midnight Stars
"Do you see the delicate, peaceful stars?" Jenny asks.
You look up into the starry night and say, "No. Not at all."
Jenny's brow furrows. She glances at you with concern, "You can't see the stars?"
You shake your head with vigor. "I see the stars but I don't see the delicate, peaceful stars that you said."
Jenny frowns. She studies your face, her expression mixed with curiosity and confusion. "What do you mean?"
"The stars aren't only delicate and glittery. They're strong. They burn, crashing into the night sky with courage. They're so much more than being delicate and glittery."
