August 2022 Fiction Contest: The pup in my front lawn
The door to my house crept open. The moonlight, shone bright, on the pond on our front lawn. I moved forward with a groan of my shoes. My brown boots, the screeching of leather on wood.
A tiny young pup had jumped off the street. Sat in the middle of the concrete slab, right in front of my eyes. My face stared ahead, as the pup licked and nuzzled its nose. Fearless, around me, like I was his home. I stretched out my hand and pet his nose. He moaned with delight as if it was what he was here for.
I wrote this flash fiction piece with poetry in the back of my mind. I have written around 380 poems to date and counting. Those were my source of inspiration for this piece. The piece is meant to bring out emotion in the reader and I hope it was able to pull out a sense of what the girl in the piece feels as she reaches out to pet the cute adorable little puppy.
