The Boy Awoke
The boy awoke. The man grabbed his hand, and began to run. Run faster, he said urgently
to the boy. They were running as fast as they could now, trying to get away, to escape,
the unnamed, unseen monster chasing them. They were long away from the fire pit now.
The little warmth, and sense of safety it had previously offered. Now gone, nothing more
than a distant memory. The boy was now shaking ferociously. They turned sharply, the
man pulling the boy, trying to out maneuver the thing, that was chasing them. They knew
not what they were running from, they just knew they were in danger, what kept telling
them that they were in danger, they do not know. But, there was some kind of powerful
force, telling, them to just keep running, to not stop. So they did. As they turned the
corner, and hid behind a tree, they sat there breathing heavy and quiet, trying to hide the
noise there making. They stare off into the dark, trying to see what it is tormenting them,
yet they see nothing. They just see darkness, can’t even see there own breath in the cold,
damp night. There terrified now, hoping, preying to god that they just make it out alive.
The boy turns toward the man, asking, whispering. Is it safe? The man doesn’t answer, so
the boy asks again, this time giving the arm a slight tug. The boy feels a shiver down his
spine, he lets go of the mans arm. He hears a thud, as the arm falls to the ground. The boy
goes to scream, but only coughs. The slight taste of blood on his tongue, the smell of fear
in the air. The boy gasps out, and moves his hand down from his neck, to his chest
slowly. He stops, the horrific pain increasing, he feels as the metal object is pulled from
his chest. He falls down, bleeding, everything going dark, as the dark figure walks away
slowly. Later the boy awakes and hears voices, but cant see, he passes back out. Voices
are heard again, and this time the boy can make them out, as he opens his eyes he sees a
doctor, who tells him he is lucky to be alive, and barely made it. The boy begins to cry as
the doctor leaves, knowing he is alone now, and nowhere to go.
